TREATMENTS

1. ORAL HYGIENE

This is one of the most important aspects of oral health and aesthetics.

In addition to daily dental hygiene care, advisable in all cases, a visit to the dentist at least twice a year is also recommended for professional cleaning treatment by an Oral Hygienist to remove tartar and the application of a fluoride-based protective treatment for the teeth.

The regular use of this procedure has several advantages:

a) Healthier gums and teeth
- due to the removal of tartar and bacterial plaque, responsible for the most important diseases that affect the gums and teeth.
- because of the early detection of possible cavities and problems with the gums, as well as the respective correction.
- because of the regular treatments to protect and revitalize the teeth and gums.

b) Brighter and whiter teeth
- clean, healthy teeth have a better appearance and a positive impact on your own confidence and on those around you.

c) An excellent investment
- because of the reduced cost of this treatment and the future expense and problems that it might prevent and avoid, it is without doubt an excellent investment, in addition to the health, well-being and aesthetic impact it imparts.

2. PERIODONTICS

Gum disease is one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults. Whereas healthy gums mean healthy teeth and that treatments carried out in the mouth will last longer.

Periodontics is concerned with the quality and health of the gums, helping to keep teeth healthy, getting rid of bad tastes and odours in the mouth and reducing tooth displacement.

3. WHITENING

This is a treatment resulting in whiter, brighter teeth. It involves the application of a product which removes the existing pigmentation of the teeth and subsequently the application another protective product.

The advantages of this treatment are the aesthetic aspect, with whiter, brighter teeth, and greater and improved protection and resistance to dirt and bacterial attacks.

4. GENERAL DENTISTRY

This is the most common area of dental treatment. It covers all restorative treatments, using various recovery materials, usually known as dental amalgams or composites.

Given the evolution in the techniques and materials used, it is possible today to restore teeth, giving them back their original shape and colour, and preserving them for many years to come.

5. PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

This is a specialism aimed at the treatment of children, generally up to the age of 12.

Children require specific treatment tailored to their individual situation.

However, from a very young age, children should be encouraged by adults to form dietary and oral hygiene habits which promote oral health.

6. ORTHODONTICS

This covers several treatments aimed at correcting the position of the teeth and the maxillofacial bones, in order to achieve an improved aesthetic appearance and better articulation.

These treatments are applied most often to young people, still in the growth and development phase, with the aim of obtaining aesthetic and functional perfection of bone and dental structure.

Various corrective materials are used, commonly known as braces, which are often worn by young people today.

7. ENDODONTICS

This is a dentistry specialism concerned with the restoration of teeth at an advanced stage of deterioration, where the pulp or nerve is already affected, and giving rise to typical high-intensity toothache.

In these cases, the removal of the pulp and cleaning of the root canal are carried out, and then the canal is filled with inert material and sealant. This operation, commonly known as "root canal" is only carried out once all other possibilities for restoration of the tooth have been exhausted.

A devitalized tooth can last for many years, if not a lifetime, as long as it is properly treated and cared for.

8. PROSTHODONTICS

Once a tooth or teeth have been lost, there are various satisfactory solutions for substitution and for oral rehabilitation.

Fixed dentures, which usually substitute natural teeth quite satisfactorily, can be supported on roots, other teeth or implants. Abutments and bridges can also be put in, in order to replace the lost teeth.

In the case of implants, these are placed directly onto the bone, replacing the roots of the missing teeth.

All lost teeth should be replaced, for aesthetic and functional reasons, though also to avoid the mobility of adjacent and/or opposing teeth which have now lost their protection.

Another possibility for the substitution of lost teeth, are removable dentures known as "dental plates," which are structures which occupy the spaces left by the missing teeth.

Your dentist will be able to advise you as to the best solution for your particular case, as well as explain the advantages and drawbacks of each solution.

9. ORAL SURGERY

This involves several kinds of surgery from extractions, particularly of impacted wisdom teeth, the removal of tumours or cysts in the oral cavity, to preparation for the fitting of prostheses, such as implants etc.
